Alliance Global outlines 5-year roadmap for hotel expansion
Billionaire Andrew Tan’s Alliance Global Group Inc. (AGI) is upsizing its nationwide hotel footprint by more than 50 percent to 11,000 room keys over five years amid robust tourism prospects. The property, liquor, gaming and fast-food conglomerate has a portfolio of nearly 7,300 room keys through subsidiaries Megaworld Corp. and Travellers International Hotel Group.
AGI said in a statement over 3,700 rooms will be added with the addition of six hotels under Megaworld Hotels & Resorts.
Diverse locations
These new hotels will be located in Parañaque City, Laguna, Bacolod City in Negros Occidental, City of San Fernando in Pampanga, Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan, and in San Vicente, Palawan.
“AGI remains to be the biggest player in the Philippine tourism sector, with the largest array of international and home-grown hotels at varying price points to cater to all types of tourists and visitors,” Kevin Tan, CEO at AGI, said in a statement.
“With the surge in domestic and international tourism activities, all our hotels have been experiencing high occupancy rates and much-improved average daily room rates,” he added.
AGI’s tourism segment revenues reached a historic high of P38.6 billion last year, growing by 84 percent over the same period in 2021 and up 10 percent versus the prepandemic level.
Tourism surge
“The Philippine tourism industry has been in a strong recovery mode since last year after reeling from the impact of the global health crisis which started three years ago,” the company said.
“As the Philippine economy continued to reopen alongside most economies around the globe, the sector saw increased discretionary spending for staycations, travel, leisure and entertainment, and the resurgence in MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) activities throughout the country,” it added.
At present, Travellers operates six international hotel brands: Marriott Hotel, Hilton Hotel, Sheraton Hotel, Hotel Okura, Holiday Inn Express and Courtyard by Marriott.
Under Megaworld Hotels, the group operates flagship hospitality brands Richmonde, Savoy, and Belmont.
“This segment has grown its importance within the group and now contributes over 20 percent of AGI’s business from its share of 15 [to] 16 percent about five years ago,” Tan said in the statement. INQ
